An Oklahoma man was killed and three people from Caney were injured yesterday in a two vehicle accident on US 166 in Labette County. 82 year old Burl Speer died after he attempted to make a U-turn and was struck by another vehicle. 50 year old Bobbi Maine, 27 year old Janetta Maine and 19 year old Ernest Maine of Caney were hospitalized. The Mobile Food Pantry is coming back to Chanute on Friday July 21st, 9am to 11am at the Chanute Recreation Commission Gym at 400 Sout Highland. There is no criteria for the mobile pantry; it is open to anyone who is need of food assistance. Bring your own box or cooler to put the food in, one visit per household. (7/12)
At this weeks meeting Iola City Council members voted to formally accept a grant to fund much of a pedestrian bridge across Elm Creek along South Washington. According to the Iola Register, the grant is for $197,000 from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. Even with the grant the project faces a projected funding gap of about $80,000.
