The ANW Special Education Co-op board approved a 2017-2018 annual budget totaling just over fourteen and a half million dollars. According to The Chanute Tribune, Director Doug Tressler said that’s about a 1 percent increase from last year. The board also approved the negotiated agreement with the Teachers Association. (7/14)
The number of people using the LaHarpe City Park has increased since the addition of a zipline and other playground equipment. According to The Iola Register, residents are looking to improve other features of the park. Refurbishing a sand volleyball court and upgrading the park’s ball diamond are among the items mentioned. The first-ever Backwards Bomber 5K is set for Saturday night in Iola. It’s a grassroots effort that is an offshoot of the original Charley Melvin Mad Bomber run that was discontinued. The run will kick off at 10 p.m. Saturday in front of the courthouse bandstand. There will be no registration and no fees. (7/14)
