KIKS & KIOL Radio News 9/27/2017

At this week’s meeting, Iola City Council members were told that the city has collected less utility revenue this year. The Iola Register reports that residents have consumed less electricity in 2017 both because of the mild weather and more energy-efficient homes. An energy consultant was not yet ready to give specifics on the need for a rate increase to help replenish the city’s electric reserves. Because Iola does not have enough generating capacity on its own and must buy from elsewhere, council members are eager to purchase additional generators. Purchasing used generators are expected to cost between $1.7 million and $2 million. (9/6)
A man was taken into custody in Yates Center on Tuesday after leading officers on a high-speed chase in southern Woodson County overnight. According to the Register, he got free while he was being taken to jail and stole a patrol vehicle. He later crashed the vehicle and fled on foot before being captured again. His identity has not been released. (9/27)
