Prayers are going up for the family of Christian Risner of Lebo, who lost his battle with cancer Saturday morning. The community rallied around Christian to throw him an early Christmas nearly a month ago… in the midst of a courageous battle with kidney cancer. The three year old went into hospice care in August, and on Saturday morning, passed away. Funeral services haven’t been announced yet, as the family works out the details.
The Humboldt High School Senior Class is getting ready to host a candidate forum for folks who will be on the upcoming ballot. The most noteworthy race is in Humboldt-USD 258, where there are five candidates who want to be on three board of education seats. The forum is planned for October 19th at 6:30 in the auditorium of the High School. The Seniors are meeting with members of the faculty and the community to come up with a list of questions to ask the candidates.
The community is being asked to join together and donate Christmas items, as the Humanity House for Santa’s Toy Shop continues rebuilding after a flooded basement destroyed many of their decorations and lights. The shop distributes free toys to kids in the community, and Christmas is now just over 2 months away…. They’re asking folks to donate Christmas items Friday and Saturday at the shop on 7 E. Madison Avenue. Last year, the shop had 10 thousand Christmas lights… please, if you’re donating lights, make sure they work – and any decorations should be in boxes. A toy drive is being planned, and an announcement on that is expected in the coming weeks.
