Iola’s Elm Creek Community Garden is changing hands and getting a new name. The property owners, Val and Carolyn McLean signed over the property to Humanity House because they are moving to Hutchinson. The new name will be The Humanity House Garden. Humanity House founder Tracy Keagle told the Iola Register that the garden rules will remain largely in place. The 122 plots rent for $25 piece. The Iola City Council will be changing quite a bit at tonight’s meeting with three new council members and a new mayor. New Council members Ron Ballard, Gene Myrick and Mark Peters will be sworn in. They replace replace Beverly Franklin, Don Becker and Sandy Zornes. In addition, Councilman Jon Wells will be sworn in as Iola’s next mayor. His First Ward seat will remain open until a replacement is found. If you’re interested, contact the city administrator. (1/8)
