A contractor has been selected to reconstruct pavement along U.S. 169 in southern Allen County starting this year. The Kansas Department of Transportation announced this week that Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. of Kansas City, Mo., was the low bidder on the $17 million project. They will be replacing the concrete driving pavement along the highway and interchange ramps from Minnesota Road just south of Iola to Delaware Road south of Humboldt. Work is expected to begin this spring and run until late 2019.
To help form a strategy to battle hunger in the community, a Food Justice Forum will be held next week. Thrive Allen County and Kansas Appleseed are among the organizations sponsoring the communuty conversation. The forum will take place on Thursday, March 8, from 6-8pm at the Dr. John Silas Bass North Community Center. It is estimated that over 2,000 people in Allen County are food insecure, without consistent access to nutritious meals.
