The National Weather Service is alerting residents to critical fire danger for the second day this week. A red flag warning is now in effect from mid-morning until 7 o’clock this evening. Northwest winds are expected at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. With relative humidity as low as 17 percent, any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A former Parsons woman received five years in federal prison on Monday for embezzling millions of dollars from the credit union she managed. According a news release from the US Attorney’s office, 66 year old Nita Rae Nirschl was also ordered to pay more than $10 million in restitution. She pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement, one count of money laundering and one count of attempted tax evasion. The crimes occurred while she was an officer of Parsons Pittsburg Credit Union.
