Local civic and faith leaders will gather tonight for a two-hour discussion on how to ensure all Allen County residents have proper access to nutritious food. The event is set for 6 p.m. at the John Silas Bass Community Center, 505 N. Buckeye St. It is sponsored by Kansas Appleseed, a non-profit justice center dedicated to serving vulnerable or excluded Kansans. A flier announcing Thursday’s panel discussion notes 1 in 5 people in Allen County are listed as “food insecure.” That means they aren’t certain where their next meal is coming from. Humanity House and Thrive Allen County are also sponsoring the event.
Also tonight, precinct members of the Republican Party wil choose an interim replacement for former Allen County Commissioner Jim Talkington. At least seven people have announced their intentions to seek the seat. Precinct members will gather at 6 p.m. in the meeting room in the basement of the Allen County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
