A traffic advisory that US 169 officially closed yesterday south of Iola from the Minnesota Road exit to Hawaii Road at Humboldt.  Take extra time for an alternate route
Because of the US 169 construction, a hotel developer says that he is looking to put off building a Sleep Inn and Suites on the east edge of Iola.  The Iola Register reports that the timing of the road work has put those plans on hold but the developer from fort Scott is still planning to build.  He is hoping to time construction so the new hotel will open early in 2020, or about when the US 169 project is finished. The rebuild in Allen County is expected to take about 18 months.
A grandnephew of Iola’s Maj. Gen. Frederick Funston, came to Iola Wednesday to research his family’s history on display at the Allen County Historical Society’s museum.  According to The Register, Edward H. Funston III, who is 86 years old, came with his cousin, Richard Ross.   They also stopped at the National Guard headquarters to see a portrait of Fred Funston.
