KIKS & KIOL Radio News 5/9/2018

Today is the deadline if you want to file to run for the city council seat in Iola’s second ward.  Individuals must live in Ward 2 to run, we have a map on the iola radio Facebook page.   If you’re interested, applications are available in the Administration Office at City Hall. Deadline is at 5 p.m.
It’s a mess.  That’s how Allen County Sheriff Bryan Murphy described the in traffic along old 169 Highway between Iola and Humboldt now that U.S. 169 is closed.  The sheriff told The Iola Register that he expected a notable increase, but the volume has created a headache for property owners along the route.  Murphy said he would visit with KDOT representatives in the coming days to discuss stricter enforcement  for motorists who drive past the road closed signs.
The Highway Patrol says two cyclists from Germany were killed yesterday while riding on Highway 66 between Galena and Riverton.  The pair were hit by a minivan around 11:20 a.m. and died at the scene.
