Two Iola Residents have filed applications with the hopes of being appointed to the Iola City Commission. The Iola Register reports that Mayor Jon Wells received applications from Ward 2 residents Daniel Mathew and Nickolas Kinder to replace Bob Shaughnessy, who resigned from his seat in April. Wells is expected to appoint Shaughnessy’s replacement tonight’s Council meeeting, subject to approval from the other remaining Council members.
Chanute residents and local veterans have been raising money to place service dogs with veterans left with physical and mental obstacles from their military experiences. According to The Chanute Tribune, the post, local residents and veterans from around southeast Kansas have been raising the funds and the service dogs will assist veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The drive raised $12,000 and will place two dogs with veterans in the Legion’s Third District.
