Yesterday was a nasty weather day in Eastern Kansas. Severe weather warnings began mid-afternoon and continued with multiple rounds of warnings through late evening. Torrential rainfall fell during the late afternoon prompting flash flood warnings. One report from four miles west of Iola measured 4.4 inches of rain during a period of a couple hours. Some roads and streets had to be barricaded due to the high water. Trained spotters reported one inch hail in Allen and Woodson counties. The only reports of tornados with the system were in Cowley County near Arkansas City.
The Anderson County Sheriff ’s Department is investigating the death of a 14-year-old Anderson County girl. Her name has not been released by authorities. According to an Anderson County Sheriff’s Department news release, the girl was found Sunday morning at the Colony Cemetery. There was no suspicion of foul play.
