The Iola City Council is back up to eight members. At this week’s meeting, Mayor Jon Wells chose Danny Mathew to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman Bob Shaughnessy. The Iola Register reports that the 34 year old Mathew is a lifelong resident of Iola and has worked for the past several years at Advantage Computer Enterprises. He was was approved, 5-0, by the other Council members present.
The USD 257 Board of Education made official its decision to move the district’s preschool program from Windsor Place to McKinley Elementary School. According to The Register, the district’s “age-to-age” program was begun in 2010 and was the second one in the state. McKinley principal Angie Linn said the move will offer a host of new benefits to students and teachers. Preschool classes will begin at McKinley beginning in the fall.
