The tornado that slammed into Eureka on Tuesday night has been rated as an EF-3 by the National Weather Service. That means it had wind speeds of roughly 150 to 200 miles per hour. Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samules said 78 homes were damaged. Of those, 12 are unlivable and 10 were destroyed. There was also damage to numerous businesses and the high school. Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer was among many officials on hand yesterday to survey damage.
The Southwind Extension District is hosting open house to welcome Woodson County to the Southwind Extension District. It will be a come-and-go reception from 2- 6 p.m. today in the Yates Center office, 211 W. Butler.
The grand opening celebration for the newly completed east entrance and fine arts plaza to the Bowlus Center is planned for Friday evening from 5:30 to 8. The ribbon cutting will be followed by an outdoor concert.
