This week, Moran City Council members set a hearing to ratify the city’s 2019 spending plan which will be patially supported with a property tax levy of about 38 mills. The budget hearing at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at Moran City Hall to give taxpayers a say in the matter before the budget is approved. The Iola Register reports that the 2019 rates will be very similar to what they paid this year. For example, the owner of a $60,000 home would pay about $1.40 more than what was paid this year.
Residents of Eureka took a break from cleanup efforts the past week to celebrate the Fourth of July. The annual Party in the Park took place as scheduled at Eureka City Park after a tornado caused extensive damage last week. There was a parade, pool activities, turtle races, a community meal and fireworks. Cleanup from the June 26 tornado will resume in earnest today.
