The Neosho River bridge at the west edge of Humboldt will be closed to traffic for a few hours soon. That’s so engineers can do extensive testing to determine if it can carry day-to-day traffic. The Iola Register reports that Mitch Garner, director of Public Works, told Allen County commissioners Tuesday morning preliminary examinations of the bridge’s structure had occurred. An in-depth study is needed before decisions are made on whether to repair or replace it. The bridge opened in 1932.
Candidates for the Allen County Commission will field questions Monday night at the Iola Senior Center, 204 N. Jefferson. Republicans Bruce Symes and incumbent John Brocker are vying for the District 3 seat, and Republicans Jerry Daniels and Steven Henderson and Democrat Mike Bruner will face off for the District 1 position. Farm Bureau is sponsoring the event, which begins at 6 p.m.
