If all goes well, Iola’s Recreation Community Building at Riverside Park will be ready for the public by early summer. Iola City Council members are expected to look at bids on April 22 to redo the flooring inside the building. It has been closed to the public since it was flooded in October. Assistant Iola City Administrator Corey Schinstock told The Iola Register, it should take a few weeks after that to get the flooring installed. That would put the building’s opening at the end of May.

Allen County commissioners accepted their planning board’s recommendation to unanimously approve a permit for a new communications tower. The Register reports that it will be 490-feet tall and located just south of the landfill near LaHarpe. The tower will be used to facilitate communications for the various public safety departments across the county. Preliminary work is underway and the site still needs FAA approval.
