Plans to repair the Recreation Community Building at Riverside Park have finally been given a green light. According to The Register, if things go as planned, the building could be open by mid-June. Iola City Council members have accepted a pair of bids to replace the building’s floor. It was flooded last October and has been closed ever since. The gym floor will consist of removable tiles atop a thin piece of padding. The other portions of the building, including the Little Theater, will be coated with an epoxy surface. The new flooring will be better able to handle any future flooding.
Iola City Council members also discussed but took no action on downtown parking changes. There has been an increase of renovated upstairs apartments around the square. That prompted questions about where where residents should park. Several ideas were tossed around.
